Robert Pattinson

The first time I saw Robert Pattinson, as Cedric Diggory in the fourth Harry Potter movie, I thought, "Hmm, he's pretty cute." I liked the character (despite the fact that he was just so nice) but after the movie ended, I forgot all about the 'pretty cute' actor who played him. That is until my sister read Twilight. Her obsession with Stephenie Meyer's book series reached such unusual proportions that I just had to read the books for myself. I still don't know how she (Meyer) did it, but three chapters in and I was a goner. I felt bad for teasing my sister because suddenly the fact that this vampire could dazzle people with his topaz eyes and crooked grin, and literally sparkle in the sun, didn't seem ridiculous at all. Loving Edward was as inevitable for me as it was for Bella. Unfortunately, I only started reading the books after Robert Pattinson had been cast as the unnaturally beautiful 'boy' who has been the fuel for many a teenage girls' fantasies (ok, and maybe a twentysomething's too). When my sister showed me the pictures of him on set, my first thought was, "Ok, so the boy is more than 'pretty cute.' He's freaking hot!" And then I read the books. Suddenly, the outrage people had expressed when Robert was first cast made sense (even if their method of expressing it didn't). Not because he was a bad choice, but because the Edward in the book is so perfect that it was hard to imagine anyone being good enough. Thankfully, I have since changed my mind. After watching countless interviews, as well as the teaser trailer about a thousand times (this is only a slight exaggeration), I am now a wholehearted supporter of Robert as Edward. Tall, beautiful, sincere, sexy, and talented, this boy definitely dazzles. When he flashes that smile, there are only three possible reactions: 1) turning to jelly; 2) giggling like a girlie-girl (or at least grinning hugely in return); or 3) momentarily forgetting to breath. In other words, reacting just as Bella reacts to Edward. And that is why I know that he is the perfect -- the only -- choice.
